 Aim of the MDP-Sun Collaboration

- Help deliver compelling and innovative applications and services to subscribers in Malaysia and the region
- Develop a thriving local industry for J2ME mobile applications and content developers
- Ensure quality through an MDP-Sun J2ME certification for application developers
MDP-Sun is a component of the Maxis Developer Programme (MDP) focusing on building a community of local developers who will develop mobility applications using Sun's J2ME platform.
The programme's vision is 3-pronged, i.e.:
- to create, build and nurture a community of certified J2ME developers providing certified mobile application content services
- to increase compelling certified products developed by certified developers that meet the needs of the marketplace
- to establish MDP-Sun as a regional centre of excellence
MDP-Sun addresses three important 'P's:
People:
People are the Participants. They need to be skilled and empowered with the ability to build cutting-edge products that meet market requirements. To achieve this, they will be taken through carefully outlined training programmes based on Sun's world-class training content. Skill empowerment will be conducted at various levels: high-level seminars, jump-start workshops, classroom training and the lowest level intensive coding units. Outstanding developers who pass established test criteria may carry the "MDP Certified Developer" title.
Products:
Products are the applications that will roll out from the programme. These products need to meet the highest quality standards to compete in the local, regional and global space. To help developers raise the quality levels of their products, an MDP-specific testing and certification methodology will be put in place. Applications that pass all the tests and meet requirements can earn the "MDP Certified" branding. "MDP Certified" can be a unique value-add that the MDP-Sun programme can provide to its participants who will be given access to all documentation that can help them build "certifiable" applications.
MDP-Sun's latest offering is the MDP-Mobile Java Certification which aims to lead developers to a higher level in the rapidly growing mobile space. Pro-active measures like this encourage developers to create higher-value applications and content that can grasp untapped market opportunities.
Promotion:
Promotion of these products can be done through multiple channels. The programme will leverage on Sun's presence in the region, its own marketing programmes and those done with partners. MDP participants will be able to demonstrate and promote their products to consumers as well as other potential business partners at these events.
